Media Player

Control Apple Music or Spotify — artwork, artist, track, progress bar with scrubbing, and prev/play/next — without switching apps.

🎚️

Per-App Volume Mixer

Independent volume sliders for Spotify, Safari, Chrome, Music, Podcasts, VLC and more. Like Windows' volume mixer, finally on Mac.

📈

Live Stocks

Watch any stock or crypto in real time. Search and add any symbol — AAPL, BTC-USD, ETFs. Prices auto-refresh every 60 seconds.

📷

Camera Preview

See yourself before your next call. A live camera feed appears right in the notch — no app switching required.

🕐

Clock & Date

Always-available clock and date. A glanceable companion to the menu bar for quick time checks.

🔋

Battery Status

Battery percentage and charging indicator at a glance. Know your power without diving into the menu bar.

🎨

Dynamic Accent Colors

The UI accent color shifts to match your currently playing song's album art — a delightful touch that makes it feel alive.

Zero Menu Bar Clutter

Runs as a pure window at screen level. No icon in the Dock. No menu bar item. Just a notch that actually does something.

How it works

Up and running in 30 seconds

1

Download the DMG

One file, no installer. Drag Notchbase.app into your Applications folder (or run it right from the DMG).

2

Right-click → Open

Because Notchbase is independently distributed (not App Store), macOS asks you to confirm the first launch. Right-click the app and choose Open.

3

Hover the notch

That's it. Move your cursor to the top of the screen where the notch is and Notchbase expands. Move away and it vanishes.

4

Grant permissions once

For volume control, macOS will ask for Automation permission the first time you use the Mixer tab. Click OK once and you're done.

FAQ

Questions & answers

Notchbase is designed for MacBooks with a physical notch (MacBook Pro 14" and 16" 2021+, MacBook Air M2+). It won't work well on older models without a notch as the panel is positioned at the top of the screen where the notch lives.
Notchbase is a native Swift app with no Electron or web runtime. When collapsed, it sits silently in the background — CPU usage is effectively zero. Timers only fire for things like refreshing stock prices (every 60s) and polling media state (every 1.5s).
Notchbase is distributed directly (not through the Mac App Store), so macOS Gatekeeper flags it on first launch. This is normal for indie apps. Just right-click (or Control-click) the app and choose "Open" — you'll only need to do this once.
macOS has no public API for setting the audio volume of arbitrary processes. Notchbase uses AppleScript to control Spotify, Apple Music, VLC, and QuickTime Player, and JavaScript injection for Safari and Chrome browsers. Apps like Zoom or Final Cut aren't yet supported.
Yes — all future updates are included with your one-time purchase. Just download the latest DMG whenever a new version is released.
macOS 13 Ventura or later on an Apple Silicon or Intel Mac with a notch display. Apple Music or Spotify for the media player tab. No additional software needed.
